Airport Fire Breaks Out in Orange County's Trabuco Canyon, Evacuations Ordered

Immediate Evacuations Ordered

Authorities have ordered immediate evacuations in the area surrounding Orange County's Trabuco Canyon Airport due to a rapidly spreading wildfire. The fire, which broke out near the airport, has already scorched several acres and is threatening nearby structures.

Extent of the Fire

According to the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA), the fire has grown to approximately 100 acres and is being fueled by dry vegetation and strong winds. The fire is currently burning out of control, and firefighters are struggling to contain its spread.

The OCFA has dispatched multiple firefighting crews to the scene, including air tankers and helicopters. However, the strong winds are making it difficult for firefighters to extinguish the blaze.

Evacuation Orders

Due to the rapidly spreading fire, authorities have ordered evacuations for the following areas:

  • All residents within a two-mile radius of the Trabuco Canyon Airport
  • Residents in the community of Coto de Caza
  • Residents in the Rancho Santa Margarita area

Residents in the affected areas are urged to evacuate immediately and follow the instructions of law enforcement officers.

Road Closures

Several roads in the area have been closed due to the fire, including:

  • Santiago Canyon Road from El Toro Road to Live Oak Canyon Road
  • Trabuco Canyon Road from Ortega Highway to El Toro Road
  • Live Oak Canyon Road from Santiago Canyon Road to Cielo Vista Drive

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Cause of the Fire

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. However, authorities believe that it may have been started by a downed power line.

Impact on Airport Operations

The fire has forced the closure of the Trabuco Canyon Airport. All flights have been canceled, and the airport is expected to remain closed until further notice.
